The Urge to Search
Have you ever thought about the amount of time that we waste for searching things? In other words, how much time we spend in order to find something? I'm not talking about goals, success, satisfaction, and moreover, love. I'm talking about the internet, where issues like information can easily be found.
And in general, what is this urge that causes us to search during our life, why is such the way of the world?
My first experience on the internet was 10 years ago.
In that time, I remember that the internet was the greatest item. My surroundings were breathless, expecting to try it.
I was very curios and could not wait any longer, so I just decided to search the new invention. Searching the internet in the beginning of the 90's was not such a simple thing to do, since personal computer was still a new matter for people in my country; and in addition, I couldn't realize from the depth of my brain, what is the real meaning of this issue who's called 'Internet'? What is that exactly? Was it too abstract?
So my first step in the mission of searching the internet, certainly in order to find it, was to obtain a computer.
I searched in a couple offices a used one; I introduced myself, trying to save my pleasant expression, when unfortunately the prices were suggested were too expensive. At this point I realized that to buy a computer is impossible mission, and therefore, I'll have to get one with no fee.
Since I've never been trained to be a professional thief, a stolen was unthinkable. However, I started to search a computer among my friends, my family and even educational institutions were a potential place to find there. The rescue came from my big sister, who decided to get rid of her old machine. And so it was, I received my first computer and started the process of searching, hoping to find the internet.
It took me a bit time to figure out that internet is not a thing that can be found, but to be installed. After the installation and connection to a line, my first surfing began.
To Search on the Net - the Advantages
Today, ten years after, I understand that my first attempt to search an unknown tool actually produced a great result; using the internet- an important tool which can help me to find things.
Think about your world without the internet for a moment.
Let's say you search for a bicycle. A world without the tools of the internet will lead you up straight to a very exhausting track; starting from searching some stores, comparing prices, characteristic and to be finished with choosing the right bike. To shorten this process, you can use a search engine on the net, find the stores, compare and even buy it.
Furthermore, you can search information about your artifact which will supply a "neutral" position, without the influence of the person who wants to sell it. You might take these words as obvious, after all, we are in the third millennium, but only ten years ago, things were different.
To Search on the net - the Disadvantages
On the other hand and although searching on the net is very convenient, there are some obstacles that make difficult the progress. One of them is being proven false.
My worst experience on the internet was when I first decided to search for a blind - date website. My single life became boring and I decided that searching for a girl on the net could be a great option, especially due to the advantage of searching particulars characteristics and saving time.
The first girl I met was very sweet, although too shy; she barely spoke and I couldn't realize what she really thinks about me. The day after, I called her. She didn't answer so I left a massage in her telephone answering machine, but have never heard from her since then. I guess she said her piece.
The second date was a disaster. When I first started to search for websites of blind dates, I tried to make sure that I'm using the best site, where only subscribers who are serious enough to pay the fee, will be registered as members. Not as expected, the one I met was completely different from the way she described herself on the net. It was not only a matter of a look, but personality; she indicated that Beethoven's music is her favorite one. When I asked her to join me next week to an orchestra, she recoiled and then announced "I hate classical music". Don't get me wrong, I was not searching for a perfect person, but still, I felt so deceived.
